Shire of Derby/West Kimberley
Reporting to the CEO, you'll lead the Shire’s media, communications, community engagement, marketing, and PR. You’ll turn complex policies and projects into clear, accessible stories that build trust and encourage participation. From newsletters and social media to campaigns and media pitches, your work will keep residents informed, engaged, and proud, while reflecting our values: PROUD, POSITIVE, INTEGRITY, RESPECT, RELATIONSHIPS, and COMMITMENT.
What You'll Do
Coordinate the Shire’s day‑to‑day media, communications, marketing and PR activities.
Manage media relations, digital channels and the delivery of key publications.
Support community engagement activities, including developing surveys, collateral and consultation tools.
Draft internal communications and support staff with editing, templates and communication standards.
Assist with communication campaigns for major projects and organisational initiatives.
Work collaboratively across the Shire, providing advice to the CEO, Executive, Councillors and staff.
Ensure compliance with policies, legislation, branding standards and WHS requirements.

1. Demonstrated sound knowledge and experience in media, communications and/or public relations, including developing and coordinating communication activities across multiple channels.
2. Highly developed communication skills, both written and verbal, that result in effective and appropriate communication with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
3. Highly developed computer skills, including Microsoft programs, internal applications, efficiency in Adobe design and Photoshop.
4. Experience in website and social media management, including reporting on statistics.
5. Proven ability to meet deadlines and to work autonomously to meet deadlines and multi- tasking requirements.
6. Proven experience in implementing and coordinating communication plans and activities across various platforms, and contributing to the development of communication tools and processes.
Qualifications and/or Training:
Demonstrated experience within Local Government (highly regarded)
A qualification in relevant field or relevant experience
